Namsang Tea Estate

The name Namsang reflects the estate’s rich natural heritage. In the local dialect, “Nam” means “water” and “Sang”signifies “a place”, a fitting description for this lush estate that thrives between two rivers and abundant natural water sources.

Nestled in the slightly elevated region of Upper Assam, Namsang Tea Estate is a true paradise on earth. Its ideal locationand unique environment contribute to the production of high-grown teas, particularly flavourful Orthodox teas that are highly prized by connoisseurs.

Positioned between the Jeypore Protected Biosphere and the Burhi Dehing River, the approach to Namsang takes you through a dense rainforest, where sunlight-seeking orchids flourish only on the highest branches. This lush forest is home to 277 species of birds, as well as leopards, Hoolock gibbons, and elephants. Among the rich flora, valuable timbers such as Ajar and Bandardima thrive, further enhancing the region’s biodiversity. Adding to its natural richness is Namsang’s profound historical significance. The estate’s Section No. 1 was planted as early as 1837, making it one of the earliest formal tea plantings in the region, with seeds recently brought from China. Namsang’s ongoing commitment to preserving biodiversity and producing high-quality teas has earned it a distinguished place in Assam’s tea heritage.
