Romai Tea Estate

The name Romai has its roots in the region’s rich history under the Ahom Kingdom, renowned for its fertile lands and strategic importance near the Buri Dehing River. The estate is named after Roma Aaideo, a respected figure in the area and the daughter of an Ahom General who governed this land. Over time, the affectionate title “Aaideo” was dropped, leaving the name Romai, which has since been associated with this region’s legacy.

Situated in the premium quality belt of Upper Assam, in the Dibrugarh district, Romai Tea Estate benefits from fertile conditions enhanced by its proximity to the Dihing River, located just 1.5 km away. The estate’s lush environment is home to vibrant flora and fauna, including exotic species of indigenous and migratory birds, showcasing the positive impact of its ecological and environmental efforts. Romai produces CTC teas, renowned for their bright, liquoring cups. Its inherent cup quality is highly sought after, particularly by overseas buyers. Romai teas play a key role in blends for one of the United Kingdom’s premium and fastest-growing tea brands, with exports to the UK growing significantly over the years.
