ONGOING COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

AKSHAYA PATRA FOUNDATION

As one of India’s leading Public-Private Partnerships in the fight against classroom hunger and malnutrition, The Akshaya Patra Foundation works to incentivise education by providing nutritious mid-day meals to government school children across the country. Rossell India sponsors mid-day meals for 350 children, ensuring that children in need receive a wholesome meal every school day. The mid-day meal acts as an incentive to keep children in school, improving both attendance and educational outcomes. For 6 out of 10 children, this meal is often the first full meal of the day, making it a crucial intervention in combating malnutrition and supporting education.

SHANTI BHAVAN CHILDREN’S PROJECT

Founded in 1997, Shanti Bhavan is a residential school with a mission to break the cycle of poverty in one generation through a holistic, long-term educational model. The school provides free, high-quality education, as well as medical and residential care, to children from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Rossell India sponsors the education of four children at Shanti Bhavan, helping to empower students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve their potential and pursue brighter futures.

REHABILITATION SUPPORT FOR SURVIVORS OF ABUSE

Rossell India is proud to support a rehabilitation programme for survivors of rape and abuse, providing a safe and supportive environment for women to rebuild their lives. The initiative currently houses and rehabilitates over 100 survivors across Delhi, offering housing, food, clothing, and counselling services. The programme also provides skill development training in areas such as sewing, cooking, baking, computer skills, and beautician courses, empowering survivors to achieve self-reliance and financial independence. In addition to vocational training, survivors receive mental health support to help them heal from trauma and forge a path toward a life of dignity. Rossell contributes by supporting rental costs for housing and providing rations, ensuring that these women have access to basic necessities and a stable foundation as they rebuild their futures.

CHARITABLE MEDICAL DISPENSARY - DELHI

Rossell India operates a charitable medical dispensary at the Daooji Temple in Old Delhi, providing free medical consultations and branded medicines to the poor and needy. The dispensary is staffed by a doctor and nurse, offering essential healthcare services to those who might otherwise have limited access to medical care.

THE EARTH SAVIOURS FOUNDATION (T.E.S.F.)

Established in 2008, The Earth Saviours Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to rescuing and providing shelter to the less privileged. The foundation’s shelter homes currently accommodate over 1,200 individuals between the ages of 18 to 100 years, including abandoned senior citizens, homeless mentally disabled people, victims of domestic violence, rape survivors, burn victims, and those suffering from incurable diseases such as HIV and schizophrenia. We are proud to support this organisation and the invaluable work they are doing to ensure that elderly residents and other vulnerable individuals receive essential care, enabling them to live with dignity and respect in their later years.

CSR PROJECTS 2024-25

Classroom Furniture for Gatoonga High School near Kharikatia Tea Estate

To address the shortage of desks, benches, and office furniture at Gatoonga High School, we provided 20 pairs of desks and benches along with two office tables and chairs. This initiative helped create a more organised and comfortable learning environment for both students and staff.

We donated a 5 kVA silent generator to a rural hospital near Nagrijuli Tea Estate to ensure uninterrupted power supply for critical hospital operations. The hospital’s existing generator was beyond repair, and this upgrade has improved the reliability of essential medical services for the surrounding community.

CSR PROJECTS 2023-24

Classroom Roof Replacement and Furniture for Phulampur High School

At Phulampur High School, we replaced the roofs of two classrooms to address major leaks and improve safety. Additionally, we provided desks, benches, bookshelves, blackboards, and a printer to enhance the learning environment for students.

We carried out comprehensive repairs at Gyanjyoti ME School, including floor and ceiling replacement to address structural issues. Desks and benches were also provided to create a safe, well-equipped space for students.

To improve sanitation at Jatya Vidyalaya School, we constructed new toilets for girls and renovated the boys' facilities, including running water installations. This initiative significantly enhanced hygiene standards for the students.

To support quality education at Adarsh Vidyalaya School, we provided desks and benches to address the shortage of classroom furniture, improving the overall learning environment for students.

CSR PROJECTS 2022-23

Hostel Beds and Classroom Furniture for Gyansukh, Tinsukia

We provided hostel beds and classroom furniture, including desks and benches, to Gyansukh, a school for orphans in Tinsukia. Gyansukh, established in 2014, supports more than 120 children from tea gardens and neighbouring villages. The institute provides education up to Class X and offers a safe and nurturing environment for children in need. Notably, five boys from our Dikom Tea Estate are currently residents of this institution.

To address the critical need for additional learning space, we constructed a new classroom and provided essential furniture to Kechasona School, which serves underprivileged students from Nokhroy and neighbouring villages. The school faced a significant challenge, with particularly Class X experiencing a student-to-class ratio of nearly 100:1, impacting the quality of education. Our support included the donation of 20 pairs of desks and benches, two wooden library bookshelves, two wooden almirahs, and a wooden box, creating a more conducive learning environment.

In response to severe flooding in the Latibari/Betagaon village near Nagrijuli Tea Estate, we provided relief materials to affected families to help them recover and rebuild their lives. Our support included essential supplies to alleviate the immediate impact of the disaster.

Recognising a shortage of classroom furniture, we donated desks and benches to Nagrijuli High School, enhancing the school's infrastructure and providing students with a more comfortable and structured learning environment.

We supported Moderkhat Girls High School with the provision of classroom furniture, as well as the renovation of its auditorium, which had suffered from major roof leaks and poor flooring. The auditorium's roof was replaced, the floor repaired, and electrical work completed to improve the facility for the students.

To address the lack of sanitation facilities at Gatoonga High School, we constructed a new toilet block for boys and girls, complete with running water. The fully tiled RCC structure has significantly improved hygiene levels for the school’s 150 students.

CSR PROJECTS 2021-22

Construction of Toilets at Nagrijuli Junior College

To improve hygiene and sanitation facilities, we constructed a fully equipped girls' toilet block with a water tank at Nagrijuli Junior College. This initiative aimed to provide a safer and more hygienic environment for the students.

Recognising the importance of digital learning, we provided computers and chairs to Kasturba Girls Hostel. This computer room has been immensely beneficial for the girls, enabling them to learn computer skills within the hostel premises, as many students are unable to afford external courses or travel to nearby towns for training.

To enhance the learning environment at Phulampur High School, we donated 20 pairs of desks and benches, along with a bookshelf. These resources have helped improve classroom conditions and create a more organised learning space for students.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, we organised meal distribution drives in Guwahati to support migrant labourers. This initiative provided essential food supplies to vulnerable communities during a challenging time, ensuring they had access to meals when they needed it most.

WILDLIFE CONSERVATION

LEOPARD RELOCATION AT DIKOM TEA ESTATE

Following increased leopard sightings at Dikom Tea Estate due to habitat destruction, Rossell formed a Wildlife Committee to work with local communities and forest authorities. This initiative has successfully relocated 37 leopards to the Dehing-Patkai Rainforest Reserve, promoting human-wildlife coexistence.

HUMAN-ELEPHANT COEXISTENCE AT NAGRIJULI & KHARIKATIA

Frequent elephant sightings in our Nagrijuli and Kharikatia estates led to the development of awareness programs aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence between humans and elephants. These programs have fostered a deeper respect for wildlife among local communities, reducing conflicts and ensuring safe environments for both people and animals.

CARBON FOOTPRINT REDUCTION

CARBON ASSESSMENT STUDIES

We have partnered with the Nansen Environmental Research Centre (India) to conduct Carbon Assessment Studies across our gardens. This initiative is part of our journey toward becoming a Net Zero entity, with a focus on identifying and reducing emissions throughout our operations.

SOLAR POWER PLANTS

We have started installing solar power plants in some of our tea estates with the aim of lowering our carbon footprint and promoting clean energy usage.

TREE PLANTATION DRIVES

As part of our commitment to carbon sequestration, we plant approximately 25,000 trees annually. These reforestation efforts not only help offset carbon emissions but also enhance biodiversity and improve the local ecosystem.

At Rossell India Limited, we remain dedicated to creating a more sustainable future. Our efforts to protect the environment and support local communities reflect our commitment to responsible growth and enduring care. By balancing business growth with sustainable practices, we aim to leave a lasting positive impact for generations to come.
